I’m so excited to finally share our master bedroom makeover with you!
I’ve been wanting to upgrade to a king sized bed for several years now. When we moved into this house two years ago, we finally got a master bedroom large enough to fit one, so we took advantage of the extra space and purchased the Tilly Bed from Wayfair.
Before
Here’s a quick reminder of what our bedroom looked like before. This Pier1 bedroom set was a wedding present coming up on almost 15 years ago! As you can imagine it holds so much sentimental value to me, and I still love it just as much as I did when we picked it out. It’s not only held up well, but it’s a classic piece of furniture that has stood the test of time. Our guest bedroom is large enough for a queen sized bed, so it works perfectly in there.

And this is our master bedroom after! When deciding what king sized bed to purchase, I chose the Tilly bed from Wayfair. I love the fresh look of an upholstered linen headboard, and the wingback sides make it extra cozy. I chose the color Linen Talc because it matched my bench perfectly. The Tilly bed comes in many different colors as well as all different sizes too. Keep reading to get my honest review of this bed, and tips on how to style it.
The Tilly Bed
I’ve had this bed on my wish list for a while now, and I’m so happy I finally purchased it. I looked at a few similar inexpensive options from Amazon, but none of them looked as nice, or had as great reviews. I also looked at several high end options that were just as beautiful, but didn’t seem worth the larger price tag. The Tilly bed seemed like the perfect choice. The only downside I could see was the bottom of the headboard ended sooner than I would have liked leaving a large gap.
I solved this problem with a taller mattress to hide the gap, as well as a smaller box spring that stayed hidden in the base of the bed. This gave me the streamlined look I was going for without the higher price tag of a more expensive bed.
Mattress, Mattress Pad, & Box Spring
I decided I didn’t want to see the mattress and the boxspring from the side of the bed, or the gap under the headboard. To keep things streamlined we chose the thickest mattress 14 inch, and the thinest box spring 5 inch. That filled the gap under the headboard perfectly, and the box spring stayed hidden in the base of the bed as well.
After a night or two of sleeping on our new 14 inch mattress we decided we needed a mattress pad too for added comfort. Since we didn’t want/need our mattress to be any taller we chose the thinnest mattress pad we could find. This 2 inch mattress pad worked great.
If I had to do it all over again I would have factored the 2 inch mattress pad into the total hight and just went with a 12 inch mattress. Thankfully the fitted sheet still fit, and the headboard gap is hidden behind the mattress/mattress pad.
Pillows
For decorative pillows I chose three 28×28 Euro Pillows and placed them in these 26×26 shams. Behind the decorative pillows we have 2 king sized pillows and pillowcases that we sleep on. The Euro pillows are extremely comfortable too, and great for sleeping or relaxing on while reading a book or watching a movie.
Sheets & Comforter
I just love white sheets and comforters! They’re so inviting, and give off that luxurious hotel vibe I was going for. White bedding also makes a nice background for pops of color in blankets and throw pillows. Both the Amazon sheets & comforter I found are extremely comfortable and they wash up well. I’ve been able to remove dirty paw prints as well as accidents from my baby girl no problem.
Cotton Quilt

Adding a decorative quilt to the foot of the bed really helped tie everything together. The khaki color in this quilt matches the walls in our bedroom, and the white squares pair nicely with the white bedding.
