Several years ago I saw a girl wearing a purse around her waist like a fanny pack. I loved the idea, but never got around to trying it myself. With New York Fashion Week flooding my Instagram and Pinterest feed, I’m reminded once again to give this look a try. Recently, I figured out how to turn a crossbody into a fanny pack and I can’t wait to share it with you.

First, I chose one of my thinnest and smallest crossbody purses to try wearing as a fanny pack. Next, I unbuckled the adjustable crossbody strap. Then, I wrapped each of the purse straps around my waist twice. Lastly, I secured the straps on the tightest notch just like a belt.
Wrapping this bag around my waist not only allowed me to wear this 90’s trend again. It also solved the problem of needing to add a belt to this boxy dress. I love wearing a belt with just about any outfit to define the waistline. Wearing a purse as a belt not only flatters the waist but it’s great for keeping your hands free.
Since this blog post went live I’ve purchased a few fanny packs. You can see how I styled them here, here, and here.
